We're looking for a Product Manager!
Who are we?
We’re Humane Engineering – a small, tech-for-good company founded by two designers, Alex Rothera and Ivor Williams – to design and build things that can genuinely improve people’s lives. We wanted to build products that utilise technology in a more expressive, meaningful way, so we began with a subject close to our hearts: helping young people cope with the loss of a loved one.
With the support of the Bethnal Green Ventures, the tech-for-good accelerator, we designed and built Cove – an app that enables you to express a mood or a feeling by creating music and capturing it in a journal. Now, with the support of NHS England, we’re developing the next version of Cove. We are looking for a product manager who is passionate about the positive role technology can play in health, especially within mental health and support services. You will have the opportunity to steer the future of Cove, helping to destigmatise emotional health using music and technology.
Your team will be made up of designers, developers, musicians, academics and researchers. We’re committed to combining evidence-led research with an incredible user experience to create a product that really helps improve people’s lives.
What is Cove?
Every year, almost 6 million young people in the UK experience the loss of someone close or significant to them - as many as 92% will endure this life-defining and profound loss before the age of 18. The Childhood Bereavement Network reports that it can take up to 3 months before young people are seen by a counsellor or therapist. Even when in therapy, they often don’t possess the emotional maturity to effectively communicate their complex emotions. Current therapy tools and social media platforms do not support the forms of self-expression often needed by young people experiencing grief or loss.
Cove functions as an effective tool for young people to improve their emotional health – such as building resilience, supporting post-traumatic growth and increasing confidence through self-expression – by utilising the everyday technology of smartphone apps to deliver radically innovative mental health support.
Cove has been selected by NHS England who are going to support companies in bringing digital tools for mental health to the NHS. It will be amongst the first generation of apps to be officially endorsed by the NHS following academic and clinical evaluation.
We launched the first version of Cove in November 2015 with great support from press and industry. It was featured on the front page of the Apple app store as a “Best New App” in 100 countries.
